Vascular Lesions

Vascular lesions, also known as birthmarks, commonly affect the skin and underlying tissues leaving pigmentation on the body.

These lesions can be classified into different types, and we at Continental Skin Clinic can develop a tailored approach for your specific vascular lesion type to help you achieve optimal results.

What are vascular lesions?

Vascular lesions are the result of numerous or large vessels that form directly underneath the skin. These vascular skin lesions occur in many sizes, shapes and can be found all over the face and body. As a result, vascular lesion types vary, and each require a tailored approach for optimal results.

Common Types of Vascular Lesions:

  1. Telangiectasia: Commonly known as spider veins or broken blood vessels; telangiectasia appears as small, dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin.
  2. Cherry Angiomas: These are red or purple growths made up of small blood vessels.
  3. Hemangiomas: These are raised red birthmarks caused by abnormal blood vessel growth. They can appear at birth or develop shortly afterward.
  4. Port Wine Stains: These large, flat, red or purple birthmarks are caused by an overgrowth of blood vessels and often persist into adulthood.

Vascular Lesion Causes

Although scientists do not know the causes of vascular lesions, they believe that these lesions are most often the result of clusters of blood vessel growths developed at birth. However these growths may not have a noticeable appearance for weeks and sometimes years.

For this concern, you can choose one of our standalone procedures or combine them in a personalised treatment plan:

– IPL

– Healite II LED Light

– Chemical Peels

Additionally, we can offer a variety of other treatments depending on the skin state and area of concern. Please bear in mind that finalised treatment plan can only be chosen after face-to-face assessment for the best result.

How we can help

We treat these indications with Laser therapy, offering an effective treatment to remove pigment from the skin, such as lesions. You can achieve flawless skin in seconds with minimal invasion and without the need for injections. However, for more complex lesions, a qualified medical professional should examine and treat these, so you may wish to speak to your GP about them first.

Patients experiencing irritation, discomfort and aiming to get rid of bumps on their skin can opt for our treatments.

  • Laser therapy, a non-invasive approach for vascular lesions, is safe for all (including children and young adults).
  • Not only is laser therapy a safe non-invasive approach, but also a quick approach because the laser can target several vessels in one flash of light.

Furthermore, in clinical studies, 80% of patients experienced greater than 50% reduction in the number of their vessels and therefore proves laser therapy is an effective approach for vascular lesions.

How to prevent vascular lesions

Considering vascular lesions are sometimes a genetic predisposition, their prevention is very limited. However, a few lifestyle changes can help control them such as:

  • Adopting a heart-healthy diet and getting more exercise.
  • Avoiding smoke.
  • Keeping your blood pressure and cholesterol in check.
  • Controlling your blood sugar, if you have diabetes.
  • Minimising prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
