What is Fractional RF Microneedling?

Fractional RF Microneedling (Morpheus 8 and Infini RF) is a micro-needling treatment that uses 50 microscopic insulated gold-coated needles and to penetrate the different layers of the dermis and deliver radiofrequency energy.

The deliverance of the radio frequency throughout the layers of the skin creates both thermal microdamage from the RF, and microdamage from the needle penetration, as it reaches the reticular layer. This stimulates the production of collagen types 1 & 3, hyaluronic acid, and elastin in the skin, helping to correct signs of scarring, sagging skin, wrinkles, texture, and signs of aging. Whether your have ice peak scarring, or you need an acne treatment, or you are interested in non-surgical facelift this procedure is suitable for all of the above concerns due to its advanced protocol that combines microneedling with radiofrequency.

As it delivers energy primarily to the dermis this limits the risk of hyperpigmentation, making it a suitable treatment for most skin types.

Before

As experts, we have vast knowledge and experience in adopting safety precautions. Before treatment, you will undergo an in-depth consultation with our specialists, who will ensure that the procedure suits you, your skin type, and your skin concerns.

You may need to make some lifestyle changes before the treatment, including limiting sun exposure and the use of topical actives including retinol. If you use any prescribed creams such as Tretinoin,  Hydroquione, Benzoyl peroxide or topical steroids, you need to let us know at your consultation as these compounds may cause increased sensitivity to aesthetic procedures, so your aesthetician will be able create a detailed, personalised plan for you to ensure you get the best results from the treatment.

Before the treatment a topical anaesthetic is applied to the area to be treated 40-60 minutes prior to the procedure, this is to ease discomfort for the patient.

After

The best way to guarantee great results is to adopt the right practices post-treatment. After your treatment, we will inform you of the best way to care for your skin. This anti-ageing procedure is a natural way to help your skin to boost collagen and elastin production.

Initial redness experienced will subside quickly within the first hour of Infini RF (Fractional RF Microneedling). It takes 24-36 hours for the residual redness and swelling to dissipate. Rarely do patients report extended redness for a few more days. If you have done an acne treatment you may see a bit more of a redness prolongation that will eventually calm down.

Some laser or RF procedures involve little or no downtime. With more intensive procedures such as RF Microneedling, longer downtimes of 5 to 7 days occur.
The healing times can be quite different and depend on different factors, such as treatment, location, and size of the treated area, device, and physical characteristics. For scar treatments this may take a bit longer to heal, whether it is an acne scar treatment or stretch mark treatment.

How Does Fractional RF Microneedling Work?

The RF microneedling handpiece delivers the radiofrequency energy to the desired layers of the dermis and epidermis to achieve thermal coagulation within the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. It is a great way to help with wrinkle, fine lines, as skin tightening treatment and oily skin treatment as it helps to put excessive sebum production under control.

The production of collagen types 1 & 3  gives the skin structure and firmness, whilst elastin helps the skin to bounce back and feel supple. Hyaluronic acid plays a vital role in skin hydration and the health of the skin cells.

If there is a concern of the specific area such sagging, volume loss or elasticity concern with the skin texture concerns,  it would be necessary to perform a course of procedures rather than a single treatment, ideally with the combination of chemical peels and HIFU for skin tightening, to achieve the best result and manage realistic expectations.

When skin starts lacking collagen it is highly recommended to do a course of collagen stimulators (skin boosters) prior to Infini RF procedure as otherwise it may not give a desired result.

The goal is to induce the healing process in the skin by creating thermal damage throughout the layers of the skin. As we can reach the reticular and papillary layers of the skin, where collagen can be the weakest, we can see the best results in skin tightening as a result of RF Microneedling. It is an advanced treatment for skin and sometimes can be a replacement for laser treatment for skin.

This procedure can also be a part of the treatmen plan with the following procedures:

What does Fractional RF Microneedling do?

Microneedling treatment is a common medical practice, but RF microneedling incorporates radiofrequency to maximise results. Tiny insulated gold needles are used to deliver radiofrequency into the skin.

As the needles are insulated, this ensures the energy is precisely delivered to the desired depth of the needle. The needle length can be altered to treat the patient’s specific concern. That’s why it is great as an anti-ageing procedure, potential alternative to a facelift and a great option for those who alreadt tried dermaplanning and is used to microneedling.

Once the needles have penetrated the skin, the RF energy is delivered and heats the area to 65 degrees to achieve coagulation of the blood through an electrothermal reaction. This coagulation of the blood stimulates collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid which helps to heal the skin after the micro damage caused throughout the layers of the skin.

Infini RF Microneedling uses your body’s own reaction to tighten the skin. The energy is fed directly into your dermis and epidermis via gold-plated microneedles. The supply of energy stimulates the natural formation of collagen and elastin. This unique and innovative technology protects the upper skin layer and at the same time enables the treatment of all skin types, including tanned skin.

An improvement in the condition is not only visible immediately after the treatment, but your body continuously forms new collagen tissue, so improvements can still be seen even after several months.

Is RF Microneedling Permanent?

Although RF microneedling is not a permanent solution, the results can last longer than other treatments. Depending on your age, skin type, the area treated, and the skincare followed at home, the effects can differ in how long they last.  For best results, it’s recommended to follow a personalised treatment plan where your specialist will advise how often you need to get the treatment.

While one RF microneedling treatment may produce temporary improvements, optimal long-term outcomes are achieved with three to six sessions spaced  four to six weeks apart. Within two to three weeks of the first treatment, most patients see a difference in their skin texture.

What’s the Difference between Fractional RF Microneedling vs Skin Needling?

Both skin needling and fractional radiofrequency needling stimulate collagen and elastin production and rejuvenate the skin.

Skin needling improves surface imperfections, including texture and tone, fine lines, and enlarged pores. As RF microneedling can reach multiple layers of the skin delivering RF energy throughout, compared to skin needling, it can help with more severe skin problems, such as acne pitting, scarring, wrinkles, sagging skin, loss of firmness, and signs of ageing. It would not be suitable for melasma and we would recommend a different course of treatments for this skin concern.

RF microneedling is worth it. The results from the  RF Microneedling in London treatment are something that can’t be achieved from other treatments. It improves the skin’s texture and tone and will leave your skin looking hydrated and radiant following treatment.

FAQs

Fractional RF produces better results when compared to traditional microneedling because it uses deeper needle penetration while producing new collagen production through radiofrequency energy.

You can expect RF skin tightening treatments to last over 12 months with proper maintenance and skincare. With ongoing treatments, results can often last much longer and will depend on the frequency of treatments.

Both treatments are great, however, anti wrinkle injections are best for specific lines caused by squinting, frowning, or raising your eyebrows, while Fractional RF Microneedling is generally better for fine lines, crepiness, and overall texture and tone.

Fractional RF Microneedling is an intensive treatment with some discomfort, however our professionals are equipped to administer numbing cream or numbing injections to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.
You may notice  a plumpness or a glow to your skin from the first day, but from 2 weeks the results may start to show and will increase over the next 3 months as the collagen and elastin stimulation occurs.
If you wants to address fine lines and moderate wrinkles on the forehead or around the eyes, texture irregularities on the skin, tightening to the skin, uneven skin tone from sun damage, acne scars and stretch marks.

Both fractional CO2 laser therapy and RF microneedling in London are common skin rejuvenation procedures using various technology. By combining microneedling with radiofrequency radiation, RF microneedling enhances collagen formation, smoothing out wrinkles and scars, and enhancing skin texture. It has a short downtime and is suitable for different skin types. In order to achieve smoother, more elastic skin, fractional CO2 laser therapy employs a high-energy CO2 laser to cut tiny channels in the skin. Deep wrinkles, acne scars, and sun damage are all efficiently treated, however the recovery period might be longer than with RF microneedling. The choice depends on individual skin concerns, treatment goals, and desired downtime. For individualised guidance we offer a consultation at our clinic where we can create a personalised treatment plan for you.

RF microneedling and Fraxel are both popular treatments used in dermatology for skin rejuvenation. RF microneedling, also known as fractional radiofrequency microneedling or fractional RF microneedling, combines the benefits of microneedling with radiofrequency energy. This procedure involves the use of tiny needles that create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, while delivering radiofrequency energy to promote collagen production and improve skin texture. RF microneedling is effective in treating acne scars, wrinkles, and skin laxity.

On the other hand, Fraxel is a type of fractional laser treatment that uses targeted beams of light to penetrate the skin and stimulate collagen production. It helps to improve skin tone, texture, and pigmentation issues.

Both treatments have their advantages and considerations, and the choice between them depends on individual needs and preferences. The cost of Infini RF microneedling or Fraxel treatment can vary depending on factors such as location, provider, and the extent of treatment needed.
