What are Sculptra Injections?

Sculptra is a type of dermal filler that contains non-animal, non-human derived poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It acts as a dermal stimulant and induces dermal fibroblasts to produce collagen. Then, this new collagen creates volume and tightens the skin as the PLLA metabolises naturally. As a collagen stimulator, Sculptra injections help restore facial skin structure and provide a long-lasting improvement in overall skin appearance.

This treatment can be combined with the following procedures:

– HIFU

– Anti Wrinkle Injections

– IPL

– Skin Boosters

– Chemical Peels

During your consultation, you can discuss combinations of treatments and create a bespoke treatment plan to help target your specific concern and ensure it’s a problem of the past.

Before

During your consultation, we will design an exceptional plan that best suits you and your skin concerns.

Ensure you inform your practitioner about your medical history, including any allergic reactions, medications like blood thinners, underlying medical conditions such as bleeding disorder or keloid scarring, or any previous skin treatments you have undergone.

Please note that Sculptra injections are indicated for use in people with healthy immune systems. If you have any underlying immunocompromised diseases or are taking immunosuppressive medications, discuss this with your practitioner during the consultation.

Additionally, avoiding alcohol before treatment can reduce the risk of bruising.

For best results, if you are planning to get any energy-based treatments such as IPL, laser hair removal, or Fractional Microneedling RF, it’s advised to either get these before the procedure or 2-4 weeks after.

After

After the procedure, expect bruising, redness, swelling, pain, itching, and other local side effects. In some cases, you may also see nodules and bumps/lumps.

Therefore, it’s essential to perform frequent massages in the treatment area as part of your aftercare routine to distribute the product evenly. Massage the injected area for 5 minutes, 5 times daily, for 5 consecutive days after your treatment.

Furthermore, avoid strenuous activities, including exercising and swimming, and refrain from using hot tubs, steam/sauna rooms, or tanning beds for at least 48 hours until any swelling or redness has resolved.

Applying sunscreen is crucial to prevent sun damage.

If you experience any unusual discomfort after your treatment, please notify us. We are always available to provide timely support.

What areas can be treated with Sculptra injections?

During the consultation, your practitioner will help you create a treatment plan based on your skin concerns and desired outcomes.

  • Cheeks
  • Submalar

Lower-face:

  • Marionette lines
  • Pre-jowl sulcus
  • Mandibular line

Also, please note that Sculptra injections in the lip, tear trough, and periorbital areas should be avoided due to the probability of nodule formation. This is because there is also a risk of vascular sclerosis if the product is injected directly into the vessels, so it should be avoided in high vascularity areas like the temporal, forehead, and scalp.

How long do sculptra injections last?

Many patients can see clinical effects due to inducing collagen production for up to 3 years. The number of previous sessions, lifestyle habits, and some other factors can affect the longevity of Sculptra injections. Furthermore, having other treatments such as HIFU Ultraformer III, taking skin boosters can help with skin rejuvenation, and maintaining good skin care. Additionally, you can maintain the results by having regular maintenance injections.

What is the difference between hyaluronic acid-based fillers and Sculptra?

The most important difference is that although both are biodegradable fillers, meaning our body can metabolise the product after a certain amount of time, Sculptra cannot be dissolved or removed like hyaluronic acid-based fillers.

The reason behind this is that we have hyaluronidase enzymes to dissolve hyaluronic acid-based fillers. However, we don’t have such a product to dissolve poly-L-lactic acid.

Additionally, unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, which fill lines, wrinkles, and folds, Sculptra is a collagen stimulator that can improve skin glow, tightness, and contour for up to 3 years or more!

Who should not have Sculptra injections?

People who are/have:

Severe allergic reactions or hypersensitivity to components in Sculptra injections

Pregnant or breastfeeding

Immunological disorders

Bleeding disorders

Body dysmorphic disorders

Active inflammation or infections at the site of the injection

Hypertrophic scars

What is the difference between Sculptra and Radiesse?

Sculptra injections consist of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), while Radiesse comprises calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA). Both biostimulators induce skin rejuvenation by stimulating collagen production.

Furthermore, we observe both immediate and long-lasting results for up to over a year with RADIESSE, whereas SCULPTRA results are more long-lasting for over 3 years.

Although both procedures are safe when administered by experienced professionals, studies indicate a higher risk of nodule formation with SCULPTRA compared to RADIESSE.

Furthermore, we use RADIESSE when aiming for definition and contour, while SCULPTRA is used for volume intentions.
