Vitiligo treatment showing depigmented patches on skin
News

Vitiligo Skin Treatment

At our London clinic, we believe everyone deserves skin confidence — day and night, whatever the condition. While there is currently no cure for vitiligo, our goal is to provide a thoughtfully designed treatment plan that supports the appearance and texture of the skin and helps you feel more comfortable and confident.

What Is Vitiligo?

Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin condition where patches of skin lose pigment, resulting in lighter or white-looking areas. It occurs because the cells that produce pigment either stop functioning or are damaged. It is not contagious.

Does vitiligo have a cure?
No — there is currently no definitive cure for vitiligo. What we offer is improvement in appearance, tone and texture through professional treatment. Managing expectations is key.

How We Approach Vitiligo at Our Clinic

We begin with a full consultation to assess your skin, the extent of pigment loss, your medical history and your goals. From there, we tailor a treatment plan that may include:

  • Topical treatments to support pigment restoration
  • Light-based therapies such as LED or phototherapy to encourage repigmentation
  • Medical camouflage (micropigmentation) to minimise visible contrast in tone

Is medical camouflage safe for vitiligo?
Yes — when performed by experienced practitioners under proper clinical conditions, micropigmentation is considered safe. We always perform patch-testing and address suitability in the consultation.

What is the difference between tattoo and medical camouflage?
Tattoos deposit ink deeply into the skin and are designed to be permanent; medical camouflage uses specialised pigments and techniques on damaged or pigment-loss tissue and may require maintenance over time.

Benefits of Our Vitiligo Treatment Plan:

  • A bespoke plan tailored to you rather than a generic approach
  • Reduction in visible contrast between affected and unaffected skin
  • Non-surgical options delivered in a supportive, luxury environment
  • Safe for most skin tones and types

Can vitiligo skin treatment remove white patches entirely?
In many cases, we can significantly improve the appearance of patches and achieve better harmony of tone. However, complete restoration of pigment cannot always be guaranteed and depends on several factors.

Risks and Important Considerations:

  • Results vary according to the size, age and stability of pigment-loss areas
  • Some patches may respond very well, others more slowly
  • Micropigmentation, while effective for camouflage, is cosmetic — the pigment may fade or shift over time
  • Consistent sun protection, skincare and follow-up are essential

What Should I Expect Before Treatment?

A consultation will include:

  • Medical and skin history review
  • Patch testing for pigment-use treatments
  • Pre-treatment guidance such as avoiding alcohol or certain medications 48 hours before the procedure

What Should I Do After Treatment?

  • Follow the tailored after-care plan provided by your practitioner
  • Avoid picking or scratching the treated area
  • For camouflage treatments, expect visible colour at first which refines over 4–6 weeks
  • Protect the area from strong sunlight and maintain skin health

How long will it take to see results?
Results begin to emerge over weeks to months. Because every person’s skin and condition are different, timeframes vary. Some clients see improvements after a few months, others may require longer. Patience and consistency are essential.

Is It Safe?

Yes — our treatments are managed by highly trained professionals and performed in a clinical setting adhering to strict safety standards. Our priority is your comfort, transparency and wellbeing.

Is phototherapy for vitiligo safe for my eyes?
Yes — when proper eye protection is used and sessions are conducted by trained practitioners, light-based treatment is safe for the eyes and skin.

Who Is Treatment Suitable For?

Vitiligo treatments are suitable for most skin types and for those over a certain age (often five and above for pigmentation work). Whether the patches are on the face, body, hands or lips, we assess each area individually.

Can medical camouflage for vitiligo be used on all skin types?
Yes — many pigmentation-loss or scar-type conditions (including vitiligo patches) can be improved by camouflage regardless of skin tone or type, provided the treatment is carried out by experienced practitioners and the skin is suitable.

Why Choose Our London Clinic for Vitiligo Support?

  • Bespoke skin-treatment planning from medical-aesthetic professionals
  • A luxury environment built around your comfort and confidence
  • A focus on skin health rather than quick cosmetic fixes
  • We help you understand your journey, not just sell a service

Begin Your Skin-Confidence Journey!

If vitiligo is affecting how you feel in your skin, we would be delighted to meet you at our King’s Cross clinic in London. Together we’ll explore your options, plan your care and support you every step of the way.
