Do you have dry or dehydrated skin?

While maintaining a skincare routine is important, most people forget to pay attention to their skin’s texture. During the winter season, your skin is bound to feel dry and dehydrated. As such, the skincare routine has to change to adapt to the colder months, but for that to happen, one has to understand their skin type.

What is the difference between dry and dehydrated skin?

Often, there is confusion between dry skin and dehydrated skin. The terms are typically used interchangeably. Dry skin is a skin type that is caused by genetics. It happens because the skin lacks sebum (oil) production genetically, leading to wrinkled, tight, dull, and flaky skin all over your body, and even the face. You will need to apply any sort of oil, serum, or moisturiser to help with this. Your skin will absorb the product right away, no matter how the weather is.

  • To combat dry skin, it is best to use rich moisturisers and gentle cleansers such as Dermaquest Nourishing Peptide Cream combined with Dermaquest Essential Daily Cleanser to intensely nourish and transform dry and dull skin.
  • The Dermaquest Nourishing Peptide Cream is the best moisturiser for dry skin.
  • We sell Dermaquest products at our luxury skincare clinic, if you would like to book a consultation with us to discuss your skincare concerns or needs, we will provide you with an in-depth skincare analysis and direct you to the products and treatments best suited for your skin that can all be had within our clinic.

However, dehydrated skin is a temporary condition due to a lack of moisture/water content. Dehydrated skin can be sensitive sometimes. It may cause breakouts, especially during winter times, because you may be using the wrong ingredients.

The best solution to add hydration to the skin is to use the Dermaquest Essential B5 Hydrating Serum and use water-binding ingredients in your skincare routine, such as Hyaluronic Acid. Glycerin, Aloe, Honey, Lactic Acid, or Citric Acid. Use these products each morning and night to help your skin lock in more moisture and to keep your skin hydrated.

Read on for some tips that we recommend for you.

How to treat dry and dehydrated skin during the winter months?

Tip 1: Use the pinch test to determine skin dehydration/dry skin

The three-second pinch test is a popular way to identify whether your skin is dehydrated or dry. Pinch the skin on your finger and watch how long it will take to come back to a normal state. If it takes a while, then your skin is dehydrated. If you see wrinkled, tight, and irritated skin at the corner of your pinch then, your skin is dry.

The “Skin Pinch Test” is a Quick Way to Tell If You're Dehydrated

Tip 2: Do not change your skincare or body care routine drastically

Listen to the skin condition and health first, and then change one or two products at a time. If you have dehydrated skin, your skin can be prone to sensitivity. It’s best to gradually switch your skincare products.

Tip 3: Focus on all-over skincare, not just face

When it comes to skincare, generally, people focus only on their face. But your skin is everywhere – hands, body, lips, under eyes – and you face cold weather impact everywhere, so why not think holistically? Ensuring your skin is fully hydrated all over your body will leave your skin with more moisture and keep your skin looking younger and healthier everywhere, not just your face!
